MYTH OR FACT:Hair grows faster on different parts of the head.

FACT. Scientific evidence supports that hair may grow at different rates on various places in the head. The movement and growth of hair follicle are usually independent from one another. But the difference in growth rate is marginal and sometimes negligible that it does not affect the overall appearance of the hair.

MYTH OR FACT:Shaving, Cutting, or Trimming the Hair Strengthens It

MYTH. Hair growth is determined by genetics. Shaving, cutting, or trimming it has no effect on the rate, strength or thickness of the new hair growth. Hair grows from follicles underneath the scalp and activities on the scalp level have no effect on the hair developing in the follicle.

It might look plain and unassuming but ginger, an herb from the family Zingiberaceae, which includes other spices such as turmeric and galangal, is laden with health benefits and medicinal properties. In Ayurvedic medicine, a centuries-old system of natural healing ingrained in Hindu culture, ginger is recognized and used as a powerful therapeutic and preventive cure for various conditions, including hair loss.

Ginger oil is especially important in addressing hair loss by naturally increasing the blood flow to the scalp, thus stimulating hair growth. It also helps strengthen hair follicles, preventing them from falling off easily. Plus, it leaves your hair and scalp smelling and feeling fresh all day.

It also has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that effectively fight and control dandruff problems. Ginger is also a great natural moisturizer. It contains vitamins, zinc, magnesium, and other minerals that gives the mane an extra sheen and repairs dry and damage hair.

Enjoy the benefits of ginger for strong and healthy hair with Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss. Novuhair combines herbs, essential oils, and other natural ingredients, including ginger, to safely combat hair loss and promote lusciously beautiful hair. Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss, is available in leading drug stores nationwide.

The heady days of summer are coming! While everyone’s gearing up to showcase their sleek and toned bodies and get sun-kissed skin, very few pay attention to their tresses. What many don’t realize is that the hair needs just as much protection from sun damage as the skin. Prolonged exposure to the sun may damage the cuticle, the outside covering of the hair strand, and cause it to be dry and brittle. Sun damaged hair is also easily vulnerable to split ends, frizz, thinning, and lacks the shine and bounce of healthy hair.

But don’t worry, there are steps you can take to protect your hair from the heat of the sun and keep it lusciously healthy all summer long. Here are five easy ways to get you started:

1. Cover up! Accessorize with stylish hats, bandannas, turbans, and the like to provide full coverage for your locks from the scorching heat of the sun during extended periods of lounging under the sun.

2. Say bye-bye to split ends. Split ends and dry tips abound during summer. Make sure to avoid split ends from damaging and splitting the rest of the hair strands by getting a regular trim.

3. Load up on fresh fruits and cooling fluids. There’s a reason why fruit juices and shakes are highly popular during summer time. Not only are they the perfect thirst quenchers but they also provide the needed vitamins to keep your skin and hair refreshed amidst the heat.Protecting the hair from summer heat - pinterestcom

4. Condition your hair. Since hair is more prone to dryness and frizz during hot days, use a le ave-in conditioner to moisturize your hair strands. Look for one that has a good amount of SPF to guard against harmful UV rays. It’s also ideal to use a deep conditioner at least once a week to keep your mane properly hydrated.

5. Take extra care of colored hair. Protect colored or chemically treated hair by looking for products that are especially made for such. Avoid color fading and dryness brought about by too much sun exposure by using a UV protectant spray that locks in moisture and protects your treated mane.

ENJOY BEAUTIFUL HAIR AT ANY AGE: Tips on Keeping Hair Luscious and Healthy in Your 20s, 30s, 40s, and Beyond

For many women, hair is one of the definitive aspects of personal style and appearance. It is not called the crowning glory for nothing. But just like our skin and body, our ha ir also changes as we age, ranging from subtle difference in texture, luster, and manageability to more serious concerns like hair loss.

Hair is generally a strong indicator of one’s overall health. But don’t fret, there are ways to maintain our hair’s “youthfulness” regardless of our age. Below are a few tips on keeping your locks healthy and luscious throughout the years.

In your 20s
Our locks are supposedly at its healthiest in our 20s. However, fad diets and improper nourishment may contribute to lackluster tresses. Our hair also needs vitamins and minerals to grow strong and healthy and we get these from the food we eat. Eating a balanced diet is therefore necessary to ensure our hair gets the proper nutrients it needs.

Our 30s are marked largely by hormonal changes brought about by life-changing events such as pregnancy. During pregnancy, hair growth hormones are working overtime resulting in thicker and faster-growing hair. But after delivery, hair shedding usually occurs. Although in most women, hair eventually grows back normally, some women may find out that the hair loss is more permanent.

Lessen the use of styling products such as gels, mousse, sprays, and the like to avoid further weighing down the hair. Also check if the iron level in your body is sufficient as iron deficiency usually triggers hair thinning. Lastly, learn to de-stress and relax amidst demands from your career and family life.

Gray hair normally starts to become more prevalent in our 40s resulting in the popularity of hair dyeing among middle-aged women. Chemicals used in hair dyes may damage and harm the hair strands especially if done frequently. The best option for women who want to cover up their gray hairs is to dye their hair within three shades of their natural hair color. More than that, the hair is at a greater risk of damage since higher volumes of peroxide are required.

It is also advisable to amp up your vitamins and minerals intake at this age due to fluctuating levels of hormones prior to menopause. Load up on Vitamins B, C, D, and E, omega-3 fatty acids, and folic acid to counter the effects of hormonal changes like thinning hair.

Whatever age you are at, it also helps to establish a disciplined hair care regimen, which includes avoiding prolonged exposure under direct sunlight or heat from styling products, good hygiene, and using gentle, and ideally, all-natural products that do not damage the hair like Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss.

Fanny Serrano, one of the industry’s foremost hair and make-up experts and also a respected fashion designer, can easily get his hands on the latest and newest hair care products in the market, both here and abroad. But TF, as he is fondly called, swears by his tried-and-tested brand and trusts no other.

To find out TF’s secret weapon to maintaining his thick and shiny mane, read Novu News’ brief chat with him below:

Novu News (NN): What’s your daily hair care routine?

TF: I shampoo my hair, apply conditioner and then towel dry it a little. I don’t blow dry my hair everyday except when I have commitments and appointments. In the evening, I wash my hair again with shampoo.

NN: What products do use?

TF: I only use Novuhair products! I use their shampoo and conditioner and apply the Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion after. Novuhair is made of all-natural ingredients so it’s safe to use everyday.

NN: Are there any other products that are part of your hair care regimen aside from Novuhair?

TF: Ever since I went through a horrifying experience of hair loss several years ago, I’m already scared to use other products. I’ve tried so many products, both local and imported, but only Novuhair helped in reversing my hair loss. I do get weekly keratin treatments to maintain my hair’s smooth texture.

MYTH OR FACT:Does excessive washing and blow drying cause hair loss?

MYTH. Frequent hair washing is part of a good hair care regimen and while constant blow drying and/or styling, especially under high heat, may cause the hair to become dry and brittle, both do not cause or result in hair loss. If you’re worried about the amount of falling hair you see in your pillow, shower or comb daily, remember that shedding around 100 hair strands a day is normal.

What makes hair naturally curly, straight, or even just wavy may be determined by genetics. In an article on the website, it cites a study conducted in 2009 that ascribes between 85% to 95% percent of hair texture to DNA. The curly hair gene is an autosomal dominant trait so it almost always wins over the genes for straight hair. But sometimes, a combination of inherited curly-haired and straight-haired genes may result in wavy hair.

But there are other factors in play as well. One of the most widely accepted theories is the shape of the follicles as a determinant of hair texture. myth or factFollicles are minute, tube-like cavities in the skin where hair grows. Round hair follicles give way to hair that grows straight while flattened ones lead to thinner hair strands that are prone to curling. On the other hand, wavy hair are grown out of oval-shaped hair follicles.

Another reason why hair may be curly or straight is determined by arrangement or structure of proteins, called
keratin, that make up each hair strand. This protein molecule contains sulfur atoms that sometimes bond with each other. When this happens, it is called a disulfide bond. Simply put, the more disulfide bonds there are, the curlier the hair becomes.

Want to achieve stylish and gorgeous hair without burning a hole in your pocket? Here are some hairstyling tips that’s easy to do and even easier on the budget. Master these and you’ll come out of your house looking salon-prepped every day.

1. Keep those unsightly baby hairs and cowlick in place by spraying a toothbrush with hair spray and combing down those stubborn hairs. You may also use the same toothbrush to tame fly away hairs.

2. Dry your hair with a cotton t-shirt instead of a towel after you shower then use the cool setting on your blow dryer. This will avoid frizz resulting from the friction caused by using a regular towel on your hair.

3. Create uniform waves by braiding your hair in sections then use a flat iron on them. Unravel the braids and you’ll be rockin’ wavy locks all around.

4. Want some instant highlights? Get some hair chalk to add a splash of color to your hair.

5. Don’t fret over a stray white hair here or there. For a quick and easy fix, just rummage through your makeup kit and find an eyeshadow that matches your hair color. Rub or brush over the problem strand and say goodbye to white hair temporarily.

6. Disguise a bad hair day with a cool turban. Plus, it makes you looking urban chic the whole day.

7. Fake a big blowout by curling your hair around big self-grip velcro rollers then use a stronghold spray to set it. This gives you an instant voluminous blowout.

8. Here’s the secret to long-lasting waves – start curling your hair, with a curling iron, in the middle part moving down to the ends of the hair.

9. Invest in a good set of brushes. Using the right kind of brush helps achieve the corresponding look and hairstyle you want. Don’t forget to clean brushes regularly by removing all the remaining hair and soaking them in warm water with a little amount of shampoo.
