Aloe vera is widely known in the Philippines as a natural herbal remedy for treating burns, cuts and wounds, and promoting thick and shiny hair. Commonly grown as a house plant, the aloe vera’s leaves contain a rich gel-like substance, which is usually applied directly to the skin or scalp.

girls-524239_960_720The aloe vera (scientific name: Aloe Barbadensis) is the most popular among the family of aloe plants and originated from North Africa. It figured prominently in traditional folk medicine and was also believed to be used by the Native Americans and those in the Caribbean to treat scalp infections and promote hair growth.

The aloe vera gel has anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties that relieve scalp itching and irritation, and remove dandruff and flaking. It stimulates hair growth by keeping hair pores clean, allowing new hair strands to push through the pores, and nourishing the hair follicles for stronger and longer hair strands. Aloe vera also has a moisturizing property that keeps hair strands from becoming brittle and falling off easily.

And now, the hair growing properties of aloe vera are now in a bottle – in Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss. As one of its active ingredients, Novuhair brings you the wonders of aloe vera to your daily hair care regimen.

Meeting Mark Zuckerberg and My Facebook Friends Day Experience

Last January 31, 2016, I flew to San Francisco and had the wonderful opportunity of being chosen as one of the eighteen invited by Facebook on their 12th Anniversary Friends Day celebration with California-based Alopecia awareness advocate, Rachel Regal.  Alopecia is an autoimmune condition which results in partial or total head and body hair loss.  I have had it since I was four, and hers just developed sometime in 2012, the same year she discovered that her 10-year-old daughter, Eliana, had it, too.  Six inspiring stories were picked by Facebook among its 1.64 billion users and we were all amazed when we’ve found out that our Alopecia story was one of them.  Imagine that!

We’ve met each other through the double A hand sign campaign that I’ve started in 2012, and we’ve been “connected” since then.  Last year, Facebook Stories featured how we were able to build a friendship, as well as campaign for disease awareness through Facebook!  And last February 1st, we’ve had the chance to tour their headquarters in Menlo Park, San Francisco, meet and chat with the people behind Facebook (Founder & CEO Mark Zuckerberg, COO Sheryl Sandberg, CPO Chris Cox, and a whole lot of awesome people), get crazy cool gadgets and have one of the best experiences of our lives.

It was such a surreal feeling to be in the same room as the creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. He was wearing his trademark look (jeans, sneakers, shirt and a big smile on his face), and had such a friendly, approachable aura and demeanor about him.  Not at all intimidating!  He told us stories about how the company started, its mission-vision, the ups and downs that come along, and their future plans.  We’ve also had the chance to ask him questions and I especially loved how he answered Rachel’s question about achieving success and life’s “impossibilities”.  He said, “There’s a difference between impossible and things taking a really long time. Even if you’re not going to be able to do something in a short time period, if you care about something, you want to see the world to move into that direction…  So the best thing to do is just get started and not be discouraged.  It’s tough because this stuff is hard, or else people would’ve already done it.”

I’ve also got the chance to ask a question to one of the world’s 50 most powerful, successful women in business, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.  Aside from Alopecia awareness, I am also an active Real Beauty advocate with girls and women struggling with various insecurities, being so consumed by the world’s unrealistic and sometimes superficial standards of beauty.  So I’ve asked her about her perception of it.  She said that beauty is just like success and that no one could really define it for you.  We are all unique.  We have different stories, dreams and desires. We should explore our own inner and outer beauty, believe and embrace that we are beautiful, and never allow anyone to tell us otherwise.

Mark capped off his talk by sharing their company philosophy with all of us. Though already having over 1 billion subscribers, there are still 7 billion people all over the world without access to all the meaningful connections and information that Facebook brings.  One thing that the company stands by is that “things are always 1% completed”.  It keeps them grounded, reminding them that there is always so much work, growth and progress to be done, and so many people to reach out to and help.

Everything about the Facebook trip was overwhelming and inspiring.  More than anything, it reminded me about “responsibility”.  We are all given our own platforms, in this case “accounts and connections”, to make a dent in this world.  It is up to us to become complacent and take these vehicles for granted, or maximize the opportunities and use them to make a positive impact in this generation.  I am grateful that Facebook has become a medium for me to communicate disease awareness and touch people beyond the confines of my tiny room and my country.  I’m glad Rachel and I are two out of millions of people choosing to recognize the importance of social media in contributing to making this world a better place, and actually doing something about it.

Truly, God plans the best adventures and creates the most beautiful surprises.  I know I wouldn’t have been handpicked for this if it weren’t for Him, as well as the countless individuals who have cared and showed support for my advocacy.  I guess one thing I could leave with everyone is that we should really take the time to search for and identify our “purpose” – that one unique, very specific calling that is the result of our talents, dreams, desires, passions and experiences.  Once you find it, be faithful to it no matter how long or difficult the journey towards its fulfillment may be.  You’ll never know where it could lead to, how far it could go and how large it could grow.  I’m glad my campaign continues to spread and reach new heights.  I’m grateful to Facebook for giving me this opportunity and to Novuhair, Nature’s Answer to Hair Loss (, for always being so supportive of my advocacy and endeavors.  I am proud and honored to have represented the Philippines and the Alopecia community in this once-in-a-lifetime, international event.

Here’s a link to a song and video that I’ve made for Friends Day!  It pretty much sums up how the experience made me feel, and how grateful I am for friends, family and meaningful connections.

FRIENDS DAY SONGTAG SOMEONE WHO MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE EVERYDAY IS #FRIENDSDAY! Everyday is Friends Day with the ones you love 🙂 I was inspired to write this after being invited as one of 18 to take part in last week’s 12th anniversary Friends Day celebration by #Facebook. I got to reunite with my friend Rachel Regal (whom I met through Facebook when I began my #AlopeciaAwareness campaign in 2012), tour their headquarters in Menlo Park, California, meet and chat with the people behind it (Founder & CEO Mark Zuckerberg, COO Sheryl Sandberg, CPO Chris Cox and a whole lot of awesome people), and have one of the most amazing, surreal, unexpected, overwhelming experiences of my life. *Inhale, exhale* Wild. This song and video pretty much sums up how the experience made me feel, and how grateful I am for friends, family and meaningful connections. Just a little something to show how real friendships make our lives fun, easier and during tough times, better and a whole lot bearable.Thank you, Facebook for this incredible opportunity. And thank you for bringing us — the whole world, together.Special thanks to Tita Angeli Pangilinan Valenciano and my Manila Genesis family, Ms Mae Vellila and Novu Hair, CameraHaus Philippines, Eleksis Marketing Corp and my dearest friends and family who have always been there to support me, my music and advocacy 🙂 I love and appreciate you all.#EverydayIsFriendsDay! Thank you, Elvin Reyes for helping me bring my song to life 🙂 #FriendsDaySong

Inheriting hair loss — and its solution

When considering the causes of an ailment, one of the first places to look is our genes. Could it possibly be something you’ve inherited?

With hair loss, this is certainly the case. In fact, it is the most common cause of hair loss, called Androgenetic Alopecia. It occurs in about 95 percent of males and 70 percent in females. Studies reveal that this also occurs in combination with other factors such as aging and hormonal changes.

Symptoms of hereditary hair loss include a gradual thinning of the hair to complete hair loss on a certain part of the scalp, if not entire baldness. The hair loss pattern and rate is different among men and women, though they similarly occur in the 20s and 30s. Family history is the biggest indicator of when hereditary hair loss starts to take place, and at what rate.

The good news is that hereditary hair loss is treatable. And while invasive options such as hair lasers and transplants abound, nature itself has bestowed us with the remedy we need to deal with hair loss.

Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion is an all-natural formula for treating hair loss. It is made of herbal ingredients such as moringa oleifera, panax ginseng, aloe vera, the essential oils of rosemary and peppermint, and virgin coconut oil. Collectively, the ingredients help improve blood circulation to the scalp and increase nutrients to hair follicles. Other beneficial side effects include returning and locking the hair’s natural luster, and preventing premature graying or whitening.

Just as hair loss can be inherited from your family, so can you inherit the solution — from nature.

Mr Abet Pano Saudi Arabia Testimonial
Actually, I have no complaints or whatsoever regarding your products. It is basically a testimonial on how these products helped me replenish my thinning hairline. I was so overwhelmed with the results as I’ve used these for 7 weeks now. As a proof, I have taken an image of my hair before and after using these products.

I’m a Chemical Engineer by profession working in Saudi Arabia for 9 years. The extreme weather condition in the Middle East is one key factor why most of the OFWs have declining hairlines and mostly suffering with alopecia.

Thank God I’ve discovered these products and now I am starting to regain back my lost hair, not instantly, but at least gradually.

Thank you very much and more power.

Respectfully yours,
Engineer Abet Pano

A Tale of Style: Tim Yap on Preventing Hair Fall, the Natural Way

A Tale of Style: Tim Yap on Preventing Hair Fall, the Natural Way

MANILA –  Meet Tim Yap, the newest ambassador of NOVUHAIR®, nature’s answer to hair loss.

If the name rings a bell, that’s because Tim also happens to be the style icon that hosts on TV and produces some of the most talked-about events in town. Yes, that Tim Yap.  Today, he joins the growing ensemble of personalities who swear by NOVUHAIR®’s efficacy – and reveals to us why he’s never looking back.

The Cost of Style
An influential figure in both Manila’s showbiz industry and elite social circles, Tim has donned an eclectic range of hairstyles throughout his career, from long and short cuts to straight and wavy fares, to dyed looks and fringed bangs. Unfortunately, going the extra mile in looks and style comes at a cost.  Eventually, all the styling took a toll on his mane, leading to one fateful morning when his pillow and shower drain gathered more hair than usual.  It didn’t help that members of Tim’s own family, including his dad and brother, suffered naturally from hair loss.  At such a point in his career, Tim couldn’t possibly go the route of losing more hair.

The introduction to NOVUHAIR® came during a jog with good friend Kim ‘Kuya Kim’ Atienza, who managed to convince the skeptical Tim to give the product a try.

Within just 14 days of continued use, the results were enough to change a mind. NOVUHAIR®, Tim knew, was working as promised.  Soon he was waking up to less fallen hair on the pillow.  Drainage flowed better in the shower.  In the mirror, not only did it appear that his scalp was growing more hair – it all looked like thicker and fuller, as well.

Tim knows he has found the real deal when it comes to addressing hair loss.  “My hair is my statement,” he says.  “My style is bold, but never bald.”  For Tim, living fully means living with a full head of hair – the crowning glory that is evident of one’s healthily cared-for scalp.

The Undeniable Power of Nature
NOVUHAIR® Topical Scalp Lotion, Herbal Shampoo, and Herbal Conditioner, are all made with herbal ingredients that collectively combat hair fall.  These ingredients – which include moringa oleifera, panax ginseng, virgin coconut oil and the essential oils of rose-mary, lavender and peppermint – help increase nutrition and enhance blood circulation to the scalp, reducing the rate of hair fall whilst spurring hair growth.

NOVUHAIR® is available as a Topical Scalp Lotion, Shampoo, and Conditioner.  Purchase the Scalp Lotion individually, or any one of the following combo packs from Mercury Drug Stores and all leading drug stores nationwide: a NOVUHAIR® Topical Scalp Lotion & Herbal Shampoo set; a 3-in-1 Pack inclusive of NOVUHAIR® Topical Scalp Lotion, Herbal Shampoo, and Herbal Conditioner; and a 2-in-1 Plus One Pack inclusive of two bottles of one bottle of Topical Scalp Lotion and two bottles of NOVUHAIR® Herbal Shampoo.

Abby Asistio: Novuhair’s latest ambassador, alopecia areata warrior, symbol of hope

SINGER, songwriter, and TV host Abby Asistio is the newest brand ambassador of Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion, nature’s answer to hair loss.

Abby is one of the new breed of young artists to join Manila Genesis Entertainment & Management Inc. She recently released her debut, self-penned single titled “Beautiful” which was arranged by Jay Durias of South Border. The single’s music video is directed by Joaquin Valdes and is currently enjoying massive airplay on Myx as well as on Manila’s hottest radio stations.

As early as the age of four, Abby knew what it was like to be without hair. Diagnosed with alopecia areata, a condition that causes patches of hair loss around the body, Abby has lived through the entire process of experiencing hair fall: losing it little by little, and then deciding to shave it all completely last year. She has even tried other hair loss remedies as she lived in the US for several years, including chemical-based products that have resulted in negative side effects.

One day, Abby decided there was no more hiding. In September 2012, she took her stand and embraced her baldness.  Together with good friend Jing Monis, she shaved her head and began with an Alopecia Areata Awareness Month Instagram campaign in which she invited friends and family to pose with a double “A” sign using their fingers. The campaign grew to success and to date has over a thousand photos. On September 25 of the same year, she did a coming out concert where she performed bald in public for the very first time.

This year she was highlighted as one of the top 41 best vocalists on The Voice Of The Philippines as one of its chosen contestants out of thousands of aspirants. Also a finalist of the Dove Real Beauty Campaign and one of Meg magazine’s 30 Young Achievers, Abby has made it one of her life goals to be a voice for those with alopecia areata. “I am honored to be chosen as brand ambassador to Novuhair. This new platform will help me to continue my advocacy to share my music and life story,” says Abby.

Since using Novuhair, Abby has experienced remarkable results. Visible signs of hair growth appeared within five months of use – and this is after years of baldness caused by alopecia areata. “The strands of my hair are thicker and more healthy-looking. My scalp is clearly nourished and invigorated. When it comes to hair growth, nature is on my side with Novuhair,” says Abby.

Abby Asistio Before and After

“We at Novuhair are very happy to welcome Abby to the family,” says Ms. Sheila Mae Velilla, President of Nutramedica Inc. “Abby is a perfect candidate to show how truly effective Novuhair is and we are glad to see visible results.”

Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion is made of herbal ingredients that rejuvenate and nourish the hair and scalp, increasing nutrient flow and maintaining its moisture, as well as helping improve blood circulation. This helps simulate hair growth while aiding in the prevention of excessive hair fall.

The natural ingredients in the formulation of Novuhair include moringa oleifera, panax ginseng, virgin coconut oil, and the essences of rosemary and lavender among others. In addition to remedying hair loss, these ingredients collectively alleviate scalp itching and prevent hair graying, ultimately improving the overall health and appearance of the scalp and hair.

Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion is available as an individual purchase; part of a combo pack that includes a bottle of Novuhair Herbal Shampoo; and 3-in-1 pack that includes the herbal shampoo and a bottle of Novuhair Herbal Conditioner.

Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion is available in all Mercury Drug Stores and all leading drugstores nationwide. For more information visit, like the brand’s official Facebook Fan Page at Novuhair Official, and follow the brand on Twitter at @NovuhairUpdates, or call the Novuhair hotlines at 413.6570 and 0922.883.0575.

Novuhair @ DZRH this Monday, August 26 at 6PM

Tune in to DZRH this Monday, August 26 at 6PM as Angelo Palmones interviews aesthetic and rejuvenation doctor Dr. Cecilia Catapang, MD, on the causes and prevention of hair loss and its benefits that make Novuhair, nature’s very own answer to hair loss, the effective remedy that it is. Don’t miss this segment!

Why You Should Consider Supplements

We all need clothes. But not everybody thinks accessories are actually a necessity to make one look better in what they’re wearing. They consider accessories more as fancy baubles, not as a means to enhance an overall look or appeal.

3in1 Product shot for webSame thing goes with supplements – many consider them as an unnecessary to improve a condition or enhance overall health. However, what most people do not see are the numerous benefits and upsides of using supplements. Novuhair is a supplement that ensures your hair is nourished, and it also promotes hair growth – and those are just some of its benefits.

Here are some great reasons to consider on why you should try supplements:

  • They’re good for you.  – Supplements are vitamins, minerals, herbs, or antioxidants conveniently packaged in either tablet, capsule, liquid, powder, or even bar form. They provide nutrients that your body needs, which you would otherwise not consciously include in your diet or daily routines. This proves especially helpful, especially with dietary supplements, since having a truly balanced diet isn’t exactly easy.
  • They can improve overall health. – Since supplements contain ingredients that complement your body’s chemistry, they have the ability to boost your energy and efficiency in performing bodily functions. This can include the promotion of increased hair growth or having a stronger immune system.
  • They are generally made of nature-based ingredients. – Nature holds numerous wonders that can help make our bodies feel and look better. We normally do not pay attention to these herbs since including them in our daily diet or health routines seem to be too much hard work (grinding, juicing, etc.). Luckily, these wonder herbs take the convenient form of ‘medicine’ as supplements so you can easily drink or apply to them as necessary. Perfect examples of herbs that help in alleviating hair loss are aloe barbadensis (sabila), panax ginseng, and centella asiatica (takip-kohol) – these can be found in hair grower formulations in the form of natural active ingredients.
  • They are usually safer to use than chemical-based products. Medicines are normally made of chemicals – artificial elements that may work, but can also pose great risks.  Most government-approved supplements on the other hand are a careful formulation of natural ingredients, and generally do not pose significant danger of having harmful side effects.

Supplements may not be as popular as their ‘medicinal’ counterparts, but they provide you with a risk-free, potentially effective, and overall health-enhancing option that’s definitely worth trying.

Take Your Natural Pick In Hair Loss Treatments

Having beautiful hair, whether you’re a man or a woman, takes a high rank in a Filipino’s list of aesthetic priorities. It should be soft, smooth, healthy, and yes – wonderfully thick. Unfortunately, one cannot always have the hair of everyone’s dreams. Worse, some may even be faced with the reality that is hair loss.

Yes, contrary to popular belief, alopecia or hair loss isn’t just for individuals with a Western or European lineage. And instead of the classic response to ‘deny’ receding hairlines and bald patches by covering up with never-subtle wigs and hats, one should consider actually getting treatment for alopecia.

Chemical treatments or over-the-counter medications are increasingly popular, especially since they are easily accessible. While transplants on the other hand are an easy choice for those who can afford it. So how about the everyday person who wants to resolve his hair loss problem in a risk-free yet affordable way?

Well despite the many wonders of technology, truth is, nature has always had the most relatively safe and helpful solutions to a number of our common aesthetic problems. And yes, that include ways to alleviate hair loss conditions.

One of the ways to naturally improve hair growth is by increasing one’s protein intake. Protein provides the essential building blocks to a lot of body functions, including the activity in your hair follicles. Go for a healthy balance of meat (about 2-3 oz. serving per day) as well as other sources like eggs, beans, and dairy products. These also contain omega-3 fatty acids that can give you a healthier scalp.

Another set of vitamins you might want to include in your diet change are iron, zinc, and biotin. These elements are said to nourish as well as strengthen hair roots, and in turn, your hair strands to help prevent hair fall.

Aside from making dietary changes, a natural way of dealing with hair loss involves massaging the scalp with essential oils. This daily practice is said to aid in boosting proper blood circulation in the scalp, thus promoting increased activity within the hair follicles. Essential oils that are said to aid in this everyday routine are lavender, virgin coconut oil, and ginger. Another popular practice of Filipinos is also the application of the ‘juice’ or dagta of the plant aloe barbadensis or sabila on the scalp. It is said to contain a conditioning agent as well as hair growth stimulants and anti-inflammatory properties.

These simple, natural means of preventing hair loss and elevating hair growth levels have been in practice for years – perhaps even decades, and centuries. All you have to do is take your pick. And fortunately, the natural active ingredients of these helpful herbs and elements can now also be conveniently used through a bottled formulation such as Novuhair’s 3-in-1 pack. The pack contains Novuhair Herbal Shampoo, Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion and the new Novuhair Herbal Conditioner – a truly natural yet effective combination of dealing with hair loss.
